Stanford University seeks two full-time postdoctoral earth scientists or engineers to measure, model, and analyze CH4 fluxes. One position will lead a synthesis of global wetland methane fluxes through a new working group funded by the U.S.G.S. Powell Synthesis Center. The project goals are to characterize wetland fluxes and their drivers and to inform and validate land-surface models of global CH4 emissions. The ideal candidate will have experience with both methane flux-tower measurements and biogeochemical modeling. The second position examines methane emissions in California, including those from abandoned oil and gas wells and homes and buildings. Approaches will include large-chamber and mobile-based measurements as well as gas-chromatography and other laboratory-based techniques. The work is funded by the California Energy Commission and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. Both postdoc positions provide opportunities for collaboration through the Global Carbon Project as part of our Global Methane Budget. Please send a CV, statement of interests, and names and contact information for three letters of recommendation to Rob Jackson ([email protected]), copying Maureen Sullivan ([email protected]). Stanford is an equal opportunity employer; minority applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. Applications will be reviewed as they are received. Please apply by November 15th, 2018, for full consideration.
